Farheen Hussain
Farheen Hussain is a Wellington-based communications professional and former journalist. She is in her final trimester of Masters in Global Business at Victoria University of Wellington.
She also holds an MA in Political Science and International Relations, and a BA in History, Economics and Political Science from the Bangalore University in India.
Before moving to Aotearoa, she was Director of Education Marketing at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, where she worked across South Asia, leading strategic media campaigns and diplomatic communications. Her work supported ministerial visits, education diplomacy, and public engagement — all centred on building stronger connections between people and policy.
Farheen also spent over a decade in Indian newsrooms, including The Times of India, Deccan Herald, and Bangalore Mirror, where she covered everything from education, health and gender to pop culture and soft diplomacy. Whether it’s writing, creating content, or spotting a great story in the middle of a news cycle — she’s all about making Asia-focused narratives relatable, sharp, and people-first.
When she’s not diving into foreign policy or Indigenous governance, you’ll probably find her hunting for the best Tiramisu in town, writing cheeky reviews of films or overthinking the politics of a good biryani. She’s a firm believer that food, pop culture, and policy all tell powerful stories — you just have to know where to look (and what to taste).
