The Asia Media Centre is offering four New Zealand-based journalists the opportunity to attend the Splice Beta 2025 Media Conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

This opportunity will support a small delegation of journalists, web editors, and media startups to join Splice Beta in November 2025. The conference is the only event in Asia that brings together the full media ecosystem — including startup founders, investors, journalists, NGOs, CEOs, and academics.
Attending will give New Zealand journalists the chance to:
Build and expand professional networks across Asia
Learn about innovative media models and emerging practices
Exchange insights with peers working at the cutting edge of media
Travel dates: Monday 24 November – Saturday 29 November 2025
New Zealand-based journalists, newsroom web editors/designers, and media startups
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
Preference will be given to applicants who are:
Working in a mainstream but smaller newsroom
Media startup member or freelance journalist seeking to build an independent online platform
Based in a Māori newsroom
From a regional or community newsroom
Return economy-class flights
Five nights’ accommodation
Successful applicants are required to:
pay for their own meals, in-country transportation costs and other expenses that might arise.
arrange their own travel insurance and travel documentation (including entry visas) at their own expense.
their own transfers to and from their closest New Zealand airport.

Successful applicants notified: 6 October 2025
