Rebecca Townsend is the researcher with the Asia Media Centre at the Asia New Zealand Foundation. Rebecca's research interests include history, politics, media and gender in Southeast Asia, especially Thailand and the Philippines. She has published research on sexual violence in television dramas in Thailand, as well as on the history of film censorship in Thailand. Prior to joining the Foundation, Rebecca earned her PhD in Southeast Asian History at Cornell University, where she researched the history of Thai nationalism, propaganda and US-Thailand relations during the Cold War.
